I’m hiring a remote part-time assistant! Application deadline is March 11. The right person for this job is:

  • Over 18 (ideally a college graduate) with a passion for science and journalism
  • An excellent communicator
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, reliable, efficient, and obsessive about accuracy
  • Proficient at finding, interpreting and summarizing science and medical studies
  • Experienced with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Google Docs, and Pub Med.
  • Confident and experienced with social media, especially Instagram
  • Based in the U.S.

Responsibilities will vary day to day and may include the following: Hunting for, reading and summarizing studies and other publications in science or medicine; finding researchers with specific expertise; editing interview transcripts; creating and updating contracts; researching organizations, people and podcasts; responding to emails; managing a calendar; and creating social media content. This person will not be co-writing articles with me or sharing a byline.

The work will be a mix of weekly deadlines and longer lead projects, averaging 8 to 12 hours per week. This is a virtual, part-time 1099 gig (no benefits, sorry!). You can set your own hours as long as you meet deadlines. Starting pay is $22-25/hour based on experience.

To apply, email your resume and a short cover letter to melindawmoyer@gmail.com with the subject line: “Research Assistant.” If you have published clips, a blog, or a social media presence, feel free to include them so I can get a sense of your voice and interests.

*I may not be able to respond to all applicants. I plan to fill the position as soon as possible, so if you don’t hear from me by March 25, you can assume this wasn’t a fit.
